Amber and Hazelwood hand-knotted baby teething/eczema/reflux necklace.  Last night's project--I hand-tied these gorgeous butter-colored amber with some hazelwood for my 10 mth old baby.  I really like it, but I did make it too long--live and learn.....yes, baby loves being a model!  sorry, she's too wiggly to get necklace straight.  The purple is supposed to be in the middle.  Necklace is even, baby is wiggly!  I love this amber, but it does seem a little big maybe, for a baby?  opinions, please!   I think I'll do more of a pattern, and less of a center piece next time as well.

My daughter is having a homeschool playdate today, and her good friend is her to play, so while they were eating their gluten-free cookies, I thought I'd get a free opinion out of her, and she declared this pattern her favorite (of the ones she saw.)  This is small-bead Hazelwood which means it is narrower, but still the same length as large hazelwood.  The producers of Hazel wood advertise it as being more appropriate for children, and I think that makes sense--a smaller piece of wood is going to absorb less acid, and children undoubtably have less acid in their systems.  This piece also has glass clear and purple.  We could do this in a necklace, or bracelet, or stay on baby anklet, and a pendant could be added upon request.  Also, I'm trying to figure out etsy!  Sooooo, etsy store is coming!!!  And I'm on twitter now.....is that redundant of Fb?  I don't know....I'll figure it all out.....eventually.  Time to put babies down for naps--see you later--!

Our original invention-the Angel Baby no-slip Anket

If you've had a baby of your own, or you been around babies a lot, you've noticed how hard it is to keep their socks on.  They are always slipping off and getting lost!  When our last baby was born, I wanted to put Hazelwood on her for her constant spitting up (probably reflux), but she was so tiny, I didn't feel comfortable putting a necklace on her, even though in tests the break-away ring (which breaks if caught on something)worked perfectly.  I wanted to see if I could come up with a practical alternative.  I invented the Baby no-slip anklet, because it is impossible to keep a sock on an infant, let alone a normal anklet.   The no-slip anklet has velcro for a secure fit, soldered rings for sturdiness, and extra thick cable.  They come in many varieties, 2-3 rows, with or without amber.  We're not sure if it works well for teething, since its not placed near the teeth, but many of our clients think its worth a shot.  It does seem to help some babies with reflux---If the problem stems from excess acid, Hazelwood will help.  If the issue is something else, it may not help. Our baby hardly ever spits up anymore, so it was a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT.  Our last 2 babies(who did NOT have hazelwood-because I didn't know about it yet) spit up ALOT till around 2 years of age.  It was crazy!

Amber in a Rainbow!

A friend asked me to combine 2 small necklaces she had into 1 larger necklace---this is the result.  I don't stock these exact same beads, but I could make a necklace very, very similar with what we do have. I thought it turned out really pretty.

I had someone ask if we can just re-string an old hazelwood necklace with new hazelwood beads, and the answer is, sure! cost? $9 for kid sized (up to 17 inch) $10 for adult 18-20 in. It would include new hazelwood beads, new wire, and new hardware as needed. You would just need to mail me the old necklace(you can cut off the old wood beads and toss--be sure to use wire cutters), and mailed in-   put your pretty beads in 1 layer of toilet paper for protection, just to be on the safe side, and definetly tell the post office to hand cancel.  Multiple order discount of 10% still applies!!!  So if you send in 2 necklaces, you get 10% off.  +shipping costs (usually $2 or less in USA).  Contact us for more info  :-)

How to send old jewelry in:  cut off old wood beads, if you can, with wire cutters (not scissors) wrap the  beads you are saving in one layer of tissue or kleenex, and place in regular envelope, take to post office, and have them HAND CANCEL.  If you use only one layer of tissue, it *should* cost you only one stamp, in most cases.  If you have a thick pendant, or something, it might cost more.  

Clogged hazelwood beads/ What to do if your necklace stops working!

I made a new discovery recently. Sometimes, after wearing hazelwood, the natural oils from our bodies collect on the hazelwood beads, clogging them up, and keep them from absorbing the acid that causes our symptoms. If that happens, I just wash my necklaces in hot water and a little strong soap (I used Dawn dishsoap, but I'm guessing Dr Bonners would work, too), and gently scrubbed with a dish towel. This is not something I do regularly(that would be hard on the beads), just "as needed", if I notice my symptoms coming back. Works well, and makes my necklaces work for longer.

Jewelry

Here are some bracelets---we usually do stretchy bracelets, they stay nicely close to the skin, (contact with hazelwood and amber is what makes them work), plus they stay out of your way when you are using your hands to wash dishes, etc.  My husband has an anklet that is stretchy and its so comfortable, he says he can't even feel it when its under his sock.

Good for little girl.  This one is actually on stretchy string, done custom for a client.  I  now recommend that you let us use cable with a clasp, so that small children can't remove (and lose) their jewelry.  Cable is sturdier, too.
